Indian Institute of Technology (IIT)
Hyderabad, Telangana, India
The Indian Institute of Technology at Hyderabad is a two hundred and twenty-seven hectares campus, located on the Hyderabad to Mumbai Highway, at a peripheral site of the metropolitan area. The campus is designed by three architectural firms selected through an international competition. The first phase includes faculty and staff housing, a lecture hall complex, student commons, and departments for electrical engineering, physics, liberal arts, mathematics, and computer science. The design integrates radical approaches in both construction and aesthetics. The iconic Lecture Hall Complex, with 15 auditoria, accommodates 3,200 students and features a wide pedestrian spine and curved walls, enhancing movement. Residential buildings have three wings radiating from a central core, and a green podium provides parking. Other structures include a student commons with a tensile parasol and department buildings with heat-deflecting facades. The campus fosters vibrant, interactive learning experiences for a dynamic academic community.
