CEPT Summer School 2025 at India House

What does it take to build a successful design practice in today’s evolving industry?

Last week, CCBA Designs hosted students from CEPT University for a Summer School and offered an opportunity to explore this question through a course led by Rahul Sathe, Director at CCBA Designs. From financial planning and operations to marketing and strategy, students engaged with real-world examples and collaborative exercises to understand the complexities of managing a design firm. Sharing insights from over 30 years of CCBA’s experience in working with public sector and private clients, Rahul Sathe discussed what it takes to be a winner in today’s market. The students developed business strategies, conducted feasibility studies, and explored how to structure teams and win projects - skills essential for future firm leaders. 

The design profession is not only about technical expertise but also about running a successful business. As the industry evolves with new technologies, market dynamics, and client expectations, architects need a robust understanding of business principles to thrive. This course is designed for students who aspire to lead or manage design firms, offering them the tools and insights required to excel in this competitive field. They will understand financial management principles, explore legal issues, and design effective strategies applicable for design firms.

This course offers an exploration into the intricate world of managing and growing an architectural practice. This course will blend theory and insights gained from practice, by examining real-world case studies and best practices, students will gain a nuanced understanding of the challenges and opportunities in the architectural business. The students will gain an understanding of the industry landscape, including key types of players and market trends, and develop crucial business planning skills.
